What is quite remarkable about our dear Pandora and her box of suffering (originally, a jar) is that no less than four men conspired, albeit unwitting of the full consequences, to make sure she got stuck with it!

"According to Hesiod, when Prometheus stole fire from heaven [Cherry Picking], Zeus, the king of the gods, took vengeance by presenting Pandora to Prometheus' brother Epimetheus. Pandora opened a jar left in her care containing sickness, death and many other unspecified evils which were then released into the world. Though she hastened to close the container, only one thing was left behind – usually translated as Hope [Fool Proofing], though it could also have the pessimistic meaning of 'deceptive expectation'" – from Pandora's Box, Wikipedia

Another layer is that the Pandora’s Box parable is about the trouble humanity creates for itself by catastrophizing and then generating conspiracies to repair the relational damage caused by lack of sane regard for suffering.

The Four Horsemen | Variation on a theme

I give you, a parable variable. In it is a to-be-deciphered antidote to Pandora and her unwanted suitors’ catastrophic mis-remembering. The above Pandora-variation on the OKIC Memory Crystal hints at a beginning of what is required to decipher it fully.

<aside> 🔗 The Four Horsemen [of the Apocalypse] walk into a bar. They dismount and the one with the white horse announces cheerily “a round of drinks for my friends”. He turns to the others and says “the catch is, we kiss cheeks first.” The one with the red horse says, “drinks are on me… if we feed each other these tasty morsels from my pack first.” The one with the black horse says, “I’ll buy… if we arm wrestle first.” The one with the pale horse says, “I doubt we’ll survive any of these promised drinks. I shall save each of us the trouble of certain death and buy none.” So together they sit, untouched, unfed, unfit as they contemplate their tragic condition. And yes, thirsty -- in a bar.
